This bi-annual event is held on the August Bank holiday weekend of each even-numbered year, so the next one will be 2012. In brief, events generally consist of:Sunday has a parade through the village from the field to the church, where evensong is held. This is attended by The Squire and Lady Cobtree, their gentlefolk guests and god-fearing members of the congregation. Ne'er-do-wells, such as smugglers and other riff-raff, usually repair to The Ship Inn across the road. Classic Car Show and Craft Fair, 11.am - 4.pm. Monday 10.am - 5.pm. The revenue men square off with the smugglers on the beach, hoping to catch them with the tide against them, circa 10a.m. Introduction to the local characters at Bury Hall, behind The Ship. The Squire carries out his magisterial duties on any captured smugglers or sheep-stealers, Scarecrow permitting. A larger parade to the field, accompanied by the Sea Cadet and Drum & Pipe Bands, heralds the opening of the Fête. Beer and food available on the field.
